Objectives

This program, part of the European Initiative for Democracy and Human Rights, covers the following areas:

• promotion of Community and international initiatives aimed at abolishing the death penalty in all countries;

• training of people responsible for teaching others about human rights (judges, lawyers, civil servants, those responsible for the training of police and security forces, teachers);

• children’s rights;

• promotion and protection of women’s rights, including action to combat the trafficking of women;

• reinforce rights of ethnic minorities such as Roma;

• rights of indigenous people worldwide;

• promote training with organizations specializing in the defence of human rights;

• support for organizations which specialize in caring for refugees;

• promote the protection of human rights in countries where there is soon to be a change of sovereignty;

• assistance to international NGOs working for the establishment of an international criminal court;

• aid for victims of terrorist acts and their families;

• support of the establishment and maintenance of rehabilitation centres for torture victims and other organizations offering concrete help to victims of human rights abuses;

• a European human rights and democratization network to guarantee the collection, analysis, updating and dissemination of information concerning the EU’s human rights policies.

Eligibility

Non-profit organizations – non-governmental and other organizations which provide legal advice or aid to persons or associations in need thereof.
