Dear Partners,
I would like to inform you that the Institute of
Creative Proceedings in Lodz, Poland is preparing a GRUNDTVIG 1
project titled "Education For Parents - School of Inter-generational
Communication."
For our project we are looking for partners from all over Europe who
meets following criteria:
- life-long learnig institution for adults,
- parent's associations,
- school for parents (in terms of pedagogical approach),
- institutions that deals with social, environmental psychology.
Interested institutions are asked to send their express of interest
until, Wednesday, October 22.
Below you can find a general description of the project.
Project: "Education of parents - school of inter-generation
communication."
1.1 Needs that the project responds to:
Rapid economic and social changes that occurred in the last decades of
20th century have destructively influenced the structure of the
family. It's hard to say whether the family is still a basic social
unit. Relations between members of a family have significantly
loosened.
It is worth to remember that relations between parents and children
are a basis for the relations of the children with surrounding world.
The parents usually have the best intentions while bringing up their
children.
However, nowadays, because of the above mentioned changes of the
reality, parents also have a considerably impeded task. Preparing the
young generation to life does not mean passing on patterns that were
formulated by tradition anymore. Parents not only do not know what to
pass on to their children (or they pass on out-of-date ideas), but
also do not know how to talk with them.
The situation is additionally complicated by the necessity of
vocational activity of parents that robs them of the time they could
spent with children. Children get rid of every authorities and follow
the rules of egoism and hedonism. Both sides feel lost and cannot find
their places in the society. It is necessary to bring back the basic
values to the family, so that it can survive and retrieve the sense of
existence.
Nowadays, parents do not have appropriate pedagogical knowledge; there
are no institutions that could help them to acquire such knowledge and
skills, either. In the most of European countries there are centres/institutions/organisations
that get interested only when family problems come to light. There are
also no institutions that teach how to communicate with members of
different generation and prevent the problems from growing bigger.
In the European countries, rapid rise of aggression, criminality and
different types of addictions(alcoholism, drug addiction, etc.) among
children and teenagers have been noticed. These are consequences of
the crisis of moral values. We can fight against those consequences,
but eliminating the causes responsible for this situation would be
much more effective operation. Appropriate upbringing and imposing
moral patterns on youth would counteract these pathologies and prepare
young citizens of Europe to a better, less complicated life.
Kiind regards,
Michael Karp
