The Institute for East European Studies at the Free University Berlin invites
applications for the MA program East European Studies by distance learning.
With the development of this program the Institute for East European Studies
reacts on the demand for multidisciplinarily trained experts on Eastern Europe
that has increased dramatically as a consequence of the economic and political
opening up of Eastern Europe. The multi-disciplinary two-year program functions
with a learning management system and deals with Introduction to East European
Studies, Politics, Sociology, Economics, Law and Humanities, Intercultural
Communication, Project Management, Conflict Management as well as
cross-disciplinary issues.
The Master's degree will be awarded provided the following requirements have
been fulfilled: participation in four one-week in-house classes in Berlin,
completion of all online courses, proof of advanced East European language
skills, report on internship or study project and Master's thesis.
The whole program comprises 120 ECTS credits (ca. 60 US credits).
Main entry requirements:
- A first university degree (B.A., M.A. diploma, state examination etc.) as a
rule, preferably in political or social sciences, humanities, law or economics.
- Participants have to be fluent in English. (e.g. TOEFL with a minimum score of
213).
Tuition amounts to 500 EUR per year plus the regular Free University of Berlin
registration fee of about 200 EUR per year. Costs arising from the obligatory
in-house classes in Berlin are at your own expense (travel costs, room and
board). The pilot program will start in October 2003. The application deadline
is June 30th, 2003. (Please note: Applications can only by accepted pending the
authorities' approval to the regulations concerning admittance, fees, study
program and examination expected for summer 2003).
